Education is a very important component for conservation, and to create new generations that are aware of the need to protect the Birds and the environment. On 30 September 2018, FLIGHT had an amazing opportunity to visit Marga Punduh Village in Lampung, Sumatra. FLIGHT raised awareness on the need to protect birds, and encouraged children draw pictures of their image of a lovely nature and with wild birds that live in this beautiful place. Through the drawings, children realise the importance of protecting the birds and their habitat. This small step we believe is crucial to spreading the word about the importance of conserving nature and wildlife.
Finally they fly Free! Quarantine Authority in Lampung, Sumatera assisted by FLIGHT released the birds that survived last night’s confiscation. Last night Bakaheuni Qurantine with FLIGHT confiscated 300 illegally transported white eyes and sunbirds. Of these birds 50 did not survive. Why does FLIGHT partner with Quarantine Authority in Lampung, Sumatera? The Bakaheuni port in Lampung is the hun that connects Sumatra to Java, also the place that many illegally shipped birds pass through. Traffic has found seizure of more than 10,000 illegally transported birds have occured here. Confiscation in Lampung, which is still in Sumatra, makes it possible for quick release of birds back to suitable habitat. We aim to stop the smuggling before the shipment reaches Java.

Last night, FLIGHT Assisted Bakaheuni Quarantine in confiscating illegally transported birds. 300 live birds mainly white eye and sunbirds. These birds have been stolen from their homes in the wild. The birds are set for release today. Cramped and kept in small boxes with very little air, food or water. Then stuffed into a Bus baggage area, hot, humid near the engine.
