a total of 953 birds rescued throughout half of June
A total of 953 wild birds were seized and rescued within 8 days. These confiscations occurred in two different places, East Java and Lampung. Starting on June 5th, FLIGHT managed to assist the team of Banyuwangi Agricultural Quarantine and Port Area Sector Police (KSKP) of Banyuwangi in rescuing more than 380 wild birds from a smuggling attempt in Banyuwangi, East Java. The birds were found on a trunk of an intercity bus, hidden between passengers’ luggage. The bird species vary, some of them are Orange-headed Thrush, Ashy Tailorbirds, Yellow-vented Bulbuls, White-eyes, Mountain Warbler, etc. All of the birds were brought back to where they came from, Bali, and already released into their natural habitat In the following week, another 519 wild birds were rescued in Banyuwangi Precisely on June 12th, FLIGHT assisted the Ketapang Port Area Sector Police (KSKP) and Surabaya Agricultural Quarantine to rescue a total of 519 wild birds in Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, East Java. The 519 birds consist of Yellow-vented Bulbuls, White-eyes, Ashy Tailorbirds, Asian Glossy Starlings, Fulvous-chested Jungle Flycatchers, etc. These birds were again, smuggled inside the trunk of an intercity bus. Fortunately, these birds were released back into the wild after some checkups were done. Happening on the same day, 46 wild birds were seized and rescued from a smuggling attempt in Lampung by the Bakauheni Port Area Sector Police (KSKP) with an assist from FLIGHT.
