Earlier on Monday, September 27th 2021 SKW III Lampung Bakauheni Nature Conservation Agency and Lampung Regional Polices with an assist from FLIGHT Protecting Indonesia’s Birds successfully foiled a smuggling attempt of 4,527 wild birds. These poor birds, which including 3,270 Bar-winged Prinia, 270 Tits, 260 Javan Myna, 60 Common Flameback, 240 Sunda White-eye, 350 Maroon-bellied Sunbirds, 5 Ashy Drongo, 57 Black-naped Oriole, 15 Blue Nuthatch were already released on the same day. They were released at Wan Abdul Rahman Forest Park after undergo checkups.

The 4,527 birds included were 3,270 Bar-winged Prinia, 270 Tits, 260 Javan Myna, 60 Common Flameback, 240 Sunda White-eye, 350 Maroon-bellied Sunbirds, 5 Ashy Drongo, 57 Black-naped Oriole, 15 Blue Nuthatch. These birds were contained inside plastic and card boxes and brought using a Toyota Hiace Minibus with BE 7882 CD license plate number from Jambi on the way to Bandar Lampung. For now, the car and the driver were brought by the police to be investigated.
The cooperation of SKW III Lampung, Lampung Police, and FLIGHT Protecting Indonesia’s Birds successfully made another catch. On 7th September 2021, the team caught three (3) men who’s owning and selling protected animals at the Lematang Village, South Lampung. The three perpetrators, with initials MS (30), AB (20), and APD (20), were doing their MO of selling protected animals through Facebook. The protected animals which they tried to sell include two Siamangs (one baby and one adult), one Agile Gibbon, and three babies of Javan Langur. These six primates were treated at the Animal Rescue Center of SKW III Lampung for now and planned to be released after their rehabilitation was done. Meanwhile, the perpetrators will be charged for violation of Law No.5 of 1990 Concerning Conservation of the Living Natural Resources and Its Ecosystem with 5 years of imprisonment and 100 Million Rupiahs fine.
On Monday, 6th September 2021, FLIGHT successfully assisted the Lampung Police and SKW III Lampung Bengkulu Nature Conservation Agency (BKSDA) foiled a smuggling attempt of 2,440 birds from Pekanbaru, Riau and to be smuggled to Tangerang, Banten. The 2,440 birds were including 20 Chesnut-capped Laughingthrush, 520 Commom Hill Myna, 315 Purple-throated Sunbird, 20 Long-tailed Sibia, 20 Common Flameback, 1,520 Bar-winged Prinia, 45 Black-naped Oriole, 30 Tits, and 10 Streaked Bulbuls. All of these birds were not included in the protected species list. Nevertheless, the perpetrators couldn’t provide the required documents. Thankfully, the 2,440 birds were already released on the Wan Abdul Rahman Forest Park. Meanwhile the two perpetrator were violated Article 44 Verse Z Law No.5 of 1990 Concerning Conservation of the Living Natural Resources and Its Ecosystem and also Article 19 Verse 2 of Government Regulation No.7 of 1990 Concerning Preserve of Animal and Plant.
Last night on Sunday, 1st August of 2021, KSKP Bakauheni and BKSDA Lampung assisted by FLIGHT succesfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,250 birds on the way to Solo, Central Java. The 1,250 birds were consisted of 1,125 Bar-winged Prinia and 125 Java Sparrow which contained inside 50 fruit boxes and brought using a Daihatsu car with license plate number BE 1831 YT. The perpetrators (M) and (H) were still undergoing an investigation by the police, meanwhile their wrongdoing violated Article 88 of Law No. 21 of 2019 Concerning Animal, Plant, and Fish Quarantine.
