On 26th August, FLIGHT with UPTD Wan Abdul Rachman Grand Forest Park (Tahura WAR) has done tree plantings around the site release of birds in Tahura WAR, Lampung. The plants that were planted are Pulasan, Longans, Durian, Buni, etc. This is the start of our journey to ensure the availability of food for the birds in the Tahura WAR area. We are planning to plant approximately 1000 trees that are beneficial for birds in order to enrich wildlife crops for feeding. Planting local types of plants that produce fruits that are favored by wild birds will ensure the availability of food for them. In addition, we want to say our gratitude to @theellenfund for helping us to fund this activity.

The law enforcement (Gakkum) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) successfully thwarted an illegal smuggling attempt of 4,228 birds. These birds were brought from South Kalimantan and planned to be delivered to Java Island through Telaga Biru Port in Bangkalan, Madura. The thwarting was based on the information from the citizen regarding the wild animal trade in Sidoarjo Regency. The team managed to rescue 4,228 birds consisting of 596 Greater Green Leafbirds, 125 Common Hill Myna, 110 Java Sparrow, 45 Blue-crowned Hanging-parrots, and 31 Crested Jayshrike, 6 Lesser Green Leafbirds, etc. The perpetrator (AFI) was suspected to be the owner and is currently being questioned by the police. He has violated Article 40 Verse 2 Jo, Article 21 Verse 2A of Law No. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of the Living Natural Resources and its Ecosystem.  

3 smuggling attempts of 770 wild birds (in total) were successfully thwarted. All the seizures take place in one place, Lampung, Sumatra, in a span of 2 weeks. The first seizure was on July 22nd, the Bakauheni Seaport Police with an assist from FLIGHT successfully rescued 587 wild birds of various species in Lampung. The rescued birds were including Lesser Green Leafbirds, Blue-masked Leafbirds, Ashy Tailorbirds, etc. These birds were immediately given over to BKSDA Lampung for their release. On the second smuggling attempt, July 30th, the Lampung Police and Lampung Nature Conservation Agency thwarted a smuggling attempt of 93 wild birds with an assist from FLIGHT in Bandar Lampung. The birds were brought by an intercity bus, hidden inside the trunk. The 93 birds were varied in species, some of them are Yellow-vented Bulbuls, Zebra Doves, Javan Mynas, Ashy Tailorbirds, Sooty-headed Bulbuls, etc. The last one occurred 4 days after, on August 3rd, another smuggling attempt of 90 wild birds was successfully foiled by the team of Lampung Police and Lampung Nature Conservation Agency with an assist from FLIGHT. These 90 birds were including Javan Mynas, White-eyes, Zebra Doves, Long-tailed Shrikes, etc. They were brought without any required quarantine documents. Hence, the birds were immediately given over to the Bengkulu Nature Conservation Agency to be released back to their natural habitat.

UPTD KPHK Tahura Wan Abdul Rachman (WAR) in collaboration with the National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Yayasan Terbang Indonesia (FLIGHT) held the Aren Festival which is one of the agendas of the Lampung Forest Tourism Festival in 2022 on Thursday, July 21st. The festival was attended by a total of 100 participants consisting of 17 KPH at the Lampung Provincial Forestry Service along with its Forest Farmer Group (KTH) which has the potential for palm products. At the festival, a seminar and products exhibition was carried out. In addition, partners of Tahura WAR such as Lampung University, Sumatra Institue of Technology, Lamping State Polytechnic, and Walhi were also present. The purpose of the Aren Festival is to educate farmers about the diversification of palm products to increase the selling value of palm juice, marketing, and palm cultivation systems. The seminar was guided by Rini Nurindarwati S.Hut, MP with speakers from BRIN, Prof. Budi Laksono, Dr. Ina Winarni, Mb Mimi Salmnah, M.For SC, Anita Aprilia Dwi Rahayu, M For Sc, M gt. The speakers delivered material on Bioethanol Processing from palm juice, products marketing, and silviculture techniques. Products exhibition was also held. Palm products brought by the farmer group participants such as palm sugar, liquid sugar, ginger palm sugar, and others.
