
3 smuggling attempts of 770 wild birds (in total) were successfully thwarted. All the seizures take place in one place, Lampung, Sumatra, in a span of 2 weeks.
The first seizure was on July 22nd, the Bakauheni Seaport Police with an assist from FLIGHT successfully rescued 587 wild birds of various species in Lampung.
The rescued birds were including Lesser Green Leafbirds, Blue-masked Leafbirds, Ashy Tailorbirds, etc. These birds were immediately given over to BKSDA Lampung for their release.
On the second smuggling attempt, July 30th, the Lampung Police and Lampung Nature Conservation Agency thwarted a smuggling attempt of 93 wild birds with an assist from FLIGHT in Bandar Lampung.
The birds were brought by an intercity bus, hidden inside the trunk. The 93 birds were varied in species, some of them are Yellow-vented Bulbuls, Zebra Doves, Javan Mynas, Ashy Tailorbirds, Sooty-headed Bulbuls, etc.
The last one occurred 4 days after, on August 3rd, another smuggling attempt of 90 wild birds was successfully foiled by the team of Lampung Police and Lampung Nature Conservation Agency with an assist from FLIGHT.
These 90 birds were including Javan Mynas, White-eyes, Zebra Doves, Long-tailed Shrikes, etc. They were brought without any required quarantine documents. Hence, the birds were immediately given over to the Bengkulu Nature Conservation Agency to be released back to their natural habitat.
