COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Conservation and protection of wildlife cannot be done by us alone–it also simultaneously needs to start with the surrounding community.

Our community development program engages communities near our release sites in Wan Abdul Rachman Grand Forest Park, Lampung. Aimed at improving the quality of life of the communities, FLIGHT formulated our community development program based on focus group discussions with the relevant communities (Forest Farmers) to identify their underlying needs and the corresponding solutions. Support activities may include sustainable agriculture and food product and/or handicraft production for alternative income.

FLIGHT strives to develop the communities who understand the stakes of our biodiversity and manage to guard the ecosystem surrounding their lives. Our ultimate goal is to shift their primary source of income from hunting and bird trading to sustainable farming and production.

One of the training modules covers Banana Chips Production and Marketing, as bananas are a major agricultural product produced by local forest farmers.

The training was conducted with the goal of improving the economic conditions of the communities around the forest area
