On 20 January 2025, FLIGHT supported the Wan Abdul Rachman Grand Forest Park Management Unit to conduct awareness raising to hundreds of participants representing 43 forest farmer groups living around the Grand Forest Park.
The 22,245.50 hectare Wan Abdul Rachman Grand Forest Park is one of the release sites for confiscated birds. The grand forest park is not only home to birds, but also to other species, such as mammals. We can see sun bears and siamang gibbons.
Present at the event were the Head of the Wan Abdul Rachman Grand Forest Park Management Unit, Eny Pusapasari and staff. Isma Ison, one of FLIGHT’s staff, provided socialization materials related to the protection and safeguarding of wildlife in botanical forest parks. Isma Ison emphasized the importance of building awareness related to conservation, protection and sharing living space with wildlife, especially bird species in the work areas of conservation partner farmers.
The socialization activities were carried out using an interactive discussion method with a persuasive approach that prioritizes methods to raise the awareness of group leaders to participate in protecting the group’s work area from habitat destruction and hunting.
In addition to awareness raising, this activity also discussed the conservation partnership agreement. The activity is a collaboration between FLIGHT and the Wan Abdul Rachman Forest Park Management Unit and the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi).
