In November 2019, 12 attempts to smuggle birds from Sumatra to Java were prevented, rescuing more than 10,000 birds. 9 attempts to smuggle birds were stopped by officers in Lampung, Sumatra whilst 3 others were foiled in Java. Birds are smuggled through buses and private cars.
Species of birds rescued by officers include the Lesser Green Leafbird, Sunda Laughingthrush, Parus Cinereus, Prinia familiaris, Cissa chinensis, Garrulax bicolor, Loriculus galgulus and Dendrocopos moluccensis.
FLIGHT has worked to support the authorities in making bird rescue efforts. These rescue efforts are supported by funds provided by Wildlife Reserve Singapore, Animals Asia, and Change for Animals and Rainforest Rescue
