Today, we held a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. We protested against the Ministry dropping the following species of birds from the new list of protected species: White-rumped shama, Straw-headed Bulbul, Gracupica contra. The population of these three species in nature is decreasing. They must be on the list of protected species!

FLIGHT got the opportunity to meet with the ministry of environment and forestry. Asking Ministry to reconsider removing the strawheaded bulbul, white-rumped shama and javan pied myna from the protected list.
The ministry sadly said that it would be difficult to return the birds into the protected list because of high numbers present in captivity. The high numbers present opportunity for reintroducing individuals and thus not a strong reason to include them into the protected list.

We believe otherwise, that those in the wild should be protected, hand in hand with other conservation efforts. We hope there is still space for the ministry to reconsider this decision.
