Natural Resources Conservation Center Jambi assisted by FLIGHT to rescue 240 Great Tits from a bus toilet which was came from Pekanbaru to Tulangbawang, Lampung.

“Great Tits are not protected by law.  But, the distribution must be completed by Domestic Transportation of Plants and Animals (SATSDN),” said Rahmad Saleh, The Head of Natural Resources Conservation Center Jambi on Friday, July 17, 2020.

He said that the discovery of these birds started from an illegal wildlife shipping raids on the Eastern Sumatra causeway.  This information also came from public report. The officers of Natural Resources Conservation Center checked out the counter of Rhema Abadi bus. The inspection was carried out when the bus unloaded passangers and goods at the counter.  Approximately 240 songbirds were founded and crammed into 8 boxes.

Based on the driver’s confession, Rahmat, these songbirds were shipped from Pekanbaru to Tulang Bawang, Lampung. According to him, these birds were very important to maintain the stability and sustainability of the food chain.

These birds were released to their suitable natural habitat in Jambi. The size of the birds is only 13 cm which have various of colors, black, grey, and white.  The head and beak are black, except for the blotchy white patches on the side of the face. This bird is spread on the islands of Sumatra, Java and Bali in mangrove forest areas up to 2,000 meters above sea level.
